Imputation, Mental Labeling and Designation

The threefold division of imputation, mental labeling and designation is suggested by the Gelug Prasangika assertion of three types of definitional imputedly knowable phenomena: imputedly knowable as something imputed on a basis – such types of phenomena are involved with “imputation”; imputedly knowable as something imputed by conceptual cognition – such types of phenomena are involved with “mental labeling”; and imputedly knowable as something posited by names and tags – such types of phenomena are involved with “designation”. Their differences shed light on the Gelug Prasangika presentation of dependent arising and the voidness of self-established existence.
