A primary consciousness that is aimed at the alayavijnana in the Chittamatra system, or at the alaya for habits in the dzogchen system, and grasps at it to be the "me" to be refuted. One of the eight types of primary consciousness asserted in the Chittamatra system and many of the non-Gelug Madhyamaka systems. Synonymous in the Karma Kagyu systems with seventh consciousness (mdun-yid).
