Gradual enlightenment

In Chinese Buddhist traditions, in contrast to sudden enlightenment, working, in graded steps, with samsaric mental activity to gain liberation from samsara. The Tibetan term is a transcription of the Chinese term "jianmen, 渐门, 漸門" (gradual gateway).
