According to the Sautrantika system, seven ways in which the mind cognizes cognitive objects: (1) bare cognition, (2) inferential cognition, (3) subsequent cognition, (4) non-determining cognition, (5) presumption, (6) indecisive wavering, and (7) distorted cognition.
