Ten destructive actions

Ways of acting, speaking or thinking that arise from disturbing emotions and ripen into the experience of suffering by the person who perpetuates them: (1) three destructive actions of body – taking the life of others, taking what has not been given to oneself and engaging in inappropriate sexual behavior, (2) four destructive actions of speech – lying, speaking divisively, speaking harshly and chattering meaninglessly, and (3) three destructive actions of mind – thinking covetously, thinking with malice and thinking with a distorted, antagonistic attitude.
