When we analyze our experience in terms of mental activity, one moment after another, we find that in each moment of experience there are many components, or mental factors, involved. When we can learn to identify these and to recognize them in our experience when we’re dealing with others or just dealing with ourselves, then we can also notice whether each of these is in balance. Are they working in harmony with each other, or is something out of balance that needs to be corrected? Both for paying attention or responding to these experiences, we need to have a quiet mind and a caring attitude, which are the basis for balancing our sensitivity in terms of ourselves, others, situations.
