Secondary topics studied in Indian Buddhist monastic universities: (1) poetry (snyan-ngag rig-pa, Skt. kāvyavidyā), (2) rhetoric and synonyms (mngon-brjod rig-pa, Skt. abhilāpavidyā), (3) prosody and composition (sdeb-sbyor rig-pa, Skt. chandavidyā), (4) drama and dance (zlos-gar rig-pa, Skt. naṭanavidyā), and (5) astrology and mathematics (skar-rtsis rig-pa, Skt. jyotirvidyā). Upon their completion, the degree "pandit" (pan-chung; learned master) is conferred.
