Four placements of confidence

In studying the Dharma with a spiritual teacher, (1) not placing one's confidence on the person, but on his or her teachings, (2) not placing one's confidence on his or her words, but on their meanings; (3) not placing one's confidence on their interpretable meanings, but on their definitive meanings, and (4) to understand them, not placing one's confidence on one's dividing consciousness, but on one's deep awareness.
