Grasping for an impossible "soul" of persons

(1) In the Vaibhashika system, the mind, focused on the conventional "me" of oneself or others, giving rise to the appearance of a self that is static, partless and independently existent and, with incorrect consideration and unawareness (ignorance), taking its mode of appearance to correspond to its actual mode of existence. (2) In the other tenet systems besides Vaibhashika, in addition, the mind giving rise to an appearance of a substantially existent, self-sufficiently knowable self and taking it to correspond to its actual mode of existence. (3) In the Gelug Prasangika system, in addition, the mind giving rise to an appearance of a self having self-established existence and taking it to correspond to its actual mode of existence.
