The static, conceptual category into which fit all individual items that are instances of it. These items are both what an audio category designated on an object/meaning category refers to and what it signifies (means). Technically, it is a mental exclusion of what is other, an implicative negation phenomenon that excludes or cuts off everything that does not fit in the category.
