In the dzogchen system, the type of limited awareness that basis rigpa (pure awareness) functions as, when it is mixed with dumbfoundedness (rmongs-cha), the unawareness of not knowing how rigpa exists. It is an awareness on which, as imputations, are the constant habits of grasping for truly established existence, which produce impure appearances, not beyond words and concepts, during conceptual and non-conceptual cognition with limited awareness.
