Dr. Alexander Berzin’s sensitivity training program focuses on developing a quiet mind and a caring heart to achieve balanced sensitivity, avoiding extremes of insensitivity or oversensitivity in interactions with others and oneself. This seminar focuses on developing a quiet mind. To quiet mental chatter, verbal thoughts, and disturbing emotions it employs three methods derived from Buddhist traditions, namely letting go, writing on water, and swells on the ocean. Participants practice these methods using photographs and thoughts of strangers, acquaintances, friends, and those they dislike, progressing to real-life interactions and self-reflection, such as looking at one’s hand or past images without judgment. The ultimate goal is to foster mindful attention and appropriate responses, supported by mindfulness and discriminating awareness, to enhance relationships and personal well-being.
